Judo family brings home extra luggage

It was a case of all in the family for the Spinks clan of Christchurch, who returned home with a mighty medal haul from the national judo championships in Wellington.
Five of the family competed and the group came home with four golds and two silver medals while mum Naomi was the coach.
Thirteen-year-old Ella struck gold in the girls' over 55kg category, won the senior girls' open title and was named the most outstanding girl at the tournament.
Not to be outdone dad Bryan, 44, rolled back the years to bag gold in the masters under 90kg and masters open categories.
Fifteen-year-old Jake was a silver medal winner in the cadets under 66kg category while younger brother Max, 10, also secured silver in the junior boys under 32kg.
Eight-year-old Zita did not place but competing at the event was a great experience for her, Bryan Spinks said.
The family's triumph capped a highly successful Labour Weekend tournament for competitors from Canterbury with the province winning 24 medals overall, including nine gold, 10 silver and five bronze.
Spinks said that was a fine effort considering that their club, the Christchurch Judo School, had been forced to move training dojos after the September 4 earthquake and had to lift and replace judo mats before and after each session.
Mike Smith, one of the club's coaches, was awarded his fourth dan black belt.
His son, Cameron, was second in the junior men's weight group but then stepped up to win the open junior men's title beating some larger opponents in the process.
Other goals medallists from the Canterbury region were Peter Broom (senior men's under 73kg), Jason Koster (senior men's under 100kg), Justin Evans (junior boys' under 28kg), Alice Matthews (senior girls' under 45kg) and Craig Muir (masters over 90kg).
