Dear Graeme,
RE: NEW JUDO SYLABUS
We have reviewed the new Judo syllabus that was circulated recently. My members and I were concerned by a number of technical inconsistencies and mistakes in translation.
The three major problems are:
1. Mistakes in translation eg fishing throw for lifting throw
2. Describing throws that are currently illegal in competition but not stating this fact
3. Many of the pictures do not relate to the named techniques or are bad examples
If you wish me to provide more detail I am always only a phone call away.
Unfortunately these errors mean that this syllabus is unable to be utilised by a responsible coach in its present form. In discussion with my team of instructors we have decided not to use it at the University Judo Club.
In a less charitable organisation than the New Zealand Judo Federation people might be inclined to criticise the author or authors of this document. We are more charitable than this and always try to offer solutions rather than just point out problems. We would like to assist to resolve this situation as quickly as possible. Although the only New Zealand Judo Federation Coaching qualification I hold was granted as recognition of prior learning rather and I have not completed the internet based learning packages I think I could be of assistance reviewing and helping you rewrite this syllabus.
Please feel free to call me anytime.
Kind Regards
Rick
