Ogawa Junior becomes all Japan high school champion, following in fathers foot steps

The Yomiuri ShimbunThe son of former judoka Naoya Ogawa, who won a silver medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, recently became national high school judo champion.
With his father looking on, Yusei Ogawa, a second-year student at Tokyo’s Shutoku High School, won the open-class category of the National High School Judo Championship at Nippon Budokan last week.
The 17-year-old is 1.89 meters tall and weighs 135 kilograms, similar in build to his father, who was runner-up in the over-95 kg class at the Barcelona Games. In addition to his physical build, the judo style of Yusei also takes after his father with the signature Ogawa technique of grabbing the back of the opponent’s neck to apply pressure.
“I’m satisfied because I was able to aggressively execute my techniques today,” Yusei said after winning the high school tournament on Thursday.
