Judo ,club gossip for the month of August 2014

The weather is cold and windy and as a favour to students one large door remains shut but still no t/s , sweat shirts ,soxes or thermal underwear.
Professor Stu is so use to wearing all of the above during BJJ  practices that this is carried over into judo when possible.
So much for tough guys .
The challenge board is gradually sorting itself out with some members very keen and others so so keen, depends who's challenging them .
Rob n.z. Coach is back from his holiday in Scotland ,commonwealth games, and Birmingham in laws
Paul Wood father to be is spending more time in windy wellington , we suggested that the expecting mum move to auckland to have the baby so Paul could still do  judo in Auckland at uni judo.
North island judo championships coming up at Tauranga at the end of the month ,uni needs a big team to make up for not going into A.I.O. Last month.
Auckland uni will be 8 members down due to championships in Tokyo and Osaka , plus members of the club representing
N.z. At he Asian masters in Kodokan Tokyo from the 19th sept.
The world masters are a week later  Malinga Spain.
Vitali Asian masters gold medalist is in Siberia or Crimea , should be back soon , we hope .
Welcome back to herr doutor Allan Greene who has had a bout of high blood pressure which prevented him from doing judo.Allan is now training for the Asian masters.
Judokai nz 1948 north shore glenfield having lost their Sensei Steve Corkin to  a small town in a job promotion to Wellsford north of warkworth ,are looking for a new Sensei .
Interested judoka please contact the president Dave Browne .
Judo n.z. Congress meets on the 7th of sept , this could be a watershed meeting as Dave Browne the current president is not standing and will be heading overseas with his wife for two years.
At this stage no nominations have been received so whoever puts their hand up , qualified or not will get the job.unfortunately the depth of talent in n.z. is very shallow. Our pick will be Jim McPhee as a  interim president until someone else can be found.
Areas are experiencing problems getting volunteers to take positions which is affecting development  of judo in the areas. This also true of other sports too but this does not help judo .
In a modern society with cheap cars available parents have become taxi drivers dropping children off to something different everyday.Judo Monday,Gym Tuesday, swimming Wednesday, etc.
What has suffered is the time to get involved and volunteer for clubs and like organisations.
Others wish to do away with areas and have a central control from Auckland .
Not sure how Auckland control would relate to understanding the needs and problems is say Otago where judo is going nowhere with only three clubs.
Auckland judo association members are talking about doing the opposite.Splitting into two new organisations aka north of the harbour bridge and south of.
Getting rid of the area judo associations in n.z.  could be differ cult as it's the areas who must vote themselves out of office.
No more free trips to auckland staying in a nice motel with free meals.Like asking our M.P.' to abolish  parliament .
Judo N.Z. Strategic plan 2015 to 2025.
Excellant , just like all the others and could be used as template for a strategic plan for 2025 to 2050.
Just brush the dust off and copy.
Brent cooper came , gave three simple turn overs then fought in newaza and tachi waza  leaving just enough energy to stagger to the bar for a free beer.
Styros from Athens Brent's gofa also turned up too.
