 In order to promote judo in NEW ZEALAND the Auckland University Judo club hereby offers a $10,000 judo scholarship to Japan for 10 months.
Aplicants must be from N.Z.
Below are the conditions for successful applicants.

Recitals

The University Judo club extends the following scholarship in the interest of the promotion of Judo for New Zealand citizens who are registered judoka with the NZJF in order to assist Judo  training in Japan as a gratuitous amount in the form of a grant for which the recipient is responsible accepts as a gift in upon meeting and maintaining the undermentioned requirements.

Definitions

President - means the President of the University Judo Club as registered by the NZJF

Term - means the period of 10 to 12 months as determinable by the President at the commencement of the scholarship

Operation

1. The successful applicant will acknowledge in writing this application and provide a letter of request in writing as to why they believe they are the best candidate for this scholarship including what objectives they hope to achieve during their stay in Japan.They will send all documentation to the President of the University Judo club - all applicants will be notified by return as to the success or otherwise of their application
2. The successful applicant will be of good character, able to travel to Japan without any legal impediment (civil or criminal) and undertake to observe Japanese national law, Judo federation regulations, and local custom - this will be demonstrable to the President by whatsoever information he reasonably requires to determine the same.
3. The applicant will not do anything to discredit New Zealand Judo.
4. The applicant will be responsible for all matters pertaining to insurance,accommodation, their legal affairs and welfare - in the event they have concerns that they are unable to manage these requirements then they will not be eligible for the grant.
5. The applicant will supply their New Zealand bank account and will be responsible for the management of funds once lodged in their account - the University club has no obligation in respect of tax, duties or administration of the fund once distributed to the applicants New Zealand bank account.
6. The applicant will provide all such reasonable details that the President may require in order to administer the grant
7. The stipend will be distributed monthly once the applicant reports affirmatively that they have arrived in Japan and commenced Judo practice
8. The Club president will administer all aspects in connection with the scholarship and upon acceptance of the same the applicant will report in writing (email) or as otherwise agreed to President within 5 working days of any communication.
9. The applicant undertakes to send an monthly report to the Club president including all reasonable details pertaining training activities and shiai - the President may publish appropriately  these details in the interest in generating interest in the scholarship and the promulgation of Judo generally
10. The grant will only be paid in the event that the applicant completes the prescribed amount of training and at least one Shiai per month -in the event of a default the grant for that month may be withheld until acceptable progress is made or the term expires.
11. In respect of item 6 if the President determines a payment should be withheld or the term expires the applicant will make no claim in respect of their default to observe the requirements of the stipend
12. In the event of injury the applicant will attend training if able in order to observe and report the same to the President - this will be determined as acceptable attendance provided this is not deemed to be malingering
13. In the event of a serious injury which requires the withdrawal from Judo activity for the period of the term then the scholarship will terminate 1 month after assessment of condition.
14. The successful applicant will acknowledge this scholarship on his Facebook ,his clubs Facebook, the Auckland uni judo Facebook and University Judo website judokong.com.
15. The applicant is encouraged to enter as many local Shiai as possible
16. The applicant is encouraged to convert his own grade to that of a Kodokan grade.
17. At the end of the term the applicant is at liberty to remain in Japan or any other country .
18. This scholarship is strictly a monetary payment and does not entitle the successful applicant to additional benefits such as accommodation.
19. In the event of a perceived conflict of interest the in awarding the scholarship the President will choose one other senior member of the University Judo club to ratify or otherwise decline the award from the known applicants.
20. The Scholarship will be promulgated annually and available for for award until such time as the funds are depleted in their entirety
