Our thoughts are with his family, and over the coming days we will do all we can to support them.
Rick was on the mat last night, sharing his knowledge, coaching o-uchi... when randori started he then had a ne-waza with Zack (administered some very effective further coaching - and we have all been on the receiving end of Rick’s tutorials).
New Zealand has lost one of our all time greats, an amazing family man... and one of the biggest personalities New Zealand; Japanese and world judo has seen.
I am so distressed to let you know of our 1972 Olympians’ passing... with the deepest of respect...
