On behalf of the members of Auckland University
Judo Club, we wish our many friends and training partners from around
Auckland, New Zealand, Japan and the world – a ‘Happy New Year’…. we
hope that 2019 is a successful and satisfying year
both on and off the mat.
Our judo year was sadly punctuated by the loss of our Sensei – IJF & Kodokan 8th
Dan, Rick Littlewood. We would encourage the many judoka who have
trained with Rick over a number of decades, make a point of joining us
on the
mat at some stage in 2019.
Having stepped into the role of Club President late in the year – I have some major acknowledgments and thanks….
To the Committee – Vice-President Stu; Barney;
Maz and Ben / Club Coaches Ben; Igor (and facilities); James; Ray; John
(and of course Stu) / Dave; Quentin; Garth and the Senior Team that do
so much… my personal thanks and the thanks of
the club!
As well as continuing to participate and win at a
National level (Vitali; Ben; Quentin) – we have a current World Masters
medallist Vitali. The club continues to be active at an area level
(Auckland Area Regional Coach; Auckland Grading
Director).
A big shout-out to our BJJ brothers who share our facilities and add so much to our club.
We thank our Patron, Yumiko Littlewood and extend
our seasons greeting to the extended Littlewood family, who continue to
be a very active and involved part of Auckland University Judo Club.
Finally, a sincere congratulations to all those who
have graded this year / who competed / who took the opportunity to
train and compete in Japan – the club is so proud of your progress!
A good and safe New Year!
Robert Levy
Club President
Auckland University Judo Club
