Hi allThe first Grassroots Development Day is on Saturday March 7th. The venue is Forrest Hill School and the day will run from 8.30 am to 4 pm. We have the use of the hall and several classrooms for the workshops and competition. Sincere thanks to FHS who have given us the facilities free of charge.Grassroots Development this year will focus on the training of officials, referees and kata judges within our area. There is a need in Auckland within these roles so we can be more self-sufficient in the competitions that we host. The workshops in the morning, starting at 9 am, will cover these 3 areas.Workshop 1: An introduction to refereeing. Suitable for players 11 years and older. After the workshop session, these newly trained referees will be used in the competition being run by Nippon Judo.Workshop 2: An introduction to tournament official’s roles. The workshop will cover mat stewarding, operating the scoreboard, filling in draw sheets, and basic weigh in procedures. Participants will also officiate at the competition alongside the referees. Suitable for parents as well as players who are interested in the very important roles of running a competition.Workshop 3: An introduction to judging kata. Suitable for experienced kata players. There is no charge for participation in the workshops. In order for these workshops to go ahead, and to assist in planning, we need an indication of interest and names of the participants. Please fill in the attached form and return to me by Wednesday 19th February.Details of the competition will be coming out in a few days.Thank you in advanceChristineSports Director Auckland Judo Association
