Auckland International Open was well run , but numbers were down on last year.
Western judo club was again the club who won the most gold medals [3]and team fights with judokai and nippon coming in with one gold medal each .
Many thanks to Debbie Downing and members of Nippon Judo who supplied the medals,t/s and catering.
Some suggestions for next year would be ;
Large signs by the North Shore Events centre entrance way roads advertising judo.
Staggered  weigh ins, having weight in from 7am to 8 am is not very bright or smart.
Mat officials be given a better and simpler system to work with.
Uni Judo supplied about 8 volunteers for the weekend and those who came .... thanks.
Also thanks to Laurie Crooks president of the Auckland Judo Association who expressed disgust at the state of the AJA dirty judo mats which Nippon Judo have been using free of charge for the last 5 years.
It looks like that next years Auckland International will be held at the Waitakarere sports center, they will have Masters and Kata shiai as well .
Tim Slyfield judo nz national high development director was seen at the A.I.O as well as Rob Levy judo nz national senior mens coach.Both are members of Uni Judo.
Tim has been off for three months after having a bone graft on his pinky finger. Rob needs a knee transplant but executions are down in the People Republic of China so he might have to wait a while.

Auckland Uni Judo's classical sayings.

  1. please be advised a new judoka in the master's category will reveal himself shortly - his name is 'fingers' findlayson from lumsden. he has been seconded from southland where he was in charge of artificial insemination techniques in the district to take charge of the cornwall park 'flock'.
