Professor Andrew

Two injuries
Greg shoulder which was bad before he went

Otherwise none
Dereck Maggs said about a hundred
Those who paid  by good credit card are auto covered ,but this does not cover martial arts
but does cover slipping on a banana skin , falling over drunk ,,and other  judo related accidents

A Masters instant reply

I'll take me chances.  Judo injures to date: broken ribs (trying too hard in newaza), dislocated collarbone (Rob Levy), dislocated fingers (numerous guerillas) , broken big toe (white belts turning in), copious gravel rash on face (more guerillas), mild concussion (don't recall who) and constantly hurt ego.

Maybe the plane will drop out of the sky, maybe my wife will be kidnapped and her body parts sold, maybe I'll die from devil fish poisoning after the chef cocks up, maybe Stu will force feed me cabbage and I'll shime waza,...
ciao

Sumo basho
Sumo is on during the masters tour it's high on the must go and see along with Japnese baseball.

Club gossip.
Senior club numbers have been good during the week , averaging 20 plus . Rob kicks green belt in the nuts and gets thrown into the wall in revenge .
Children ,children stop fighting.
Green belt. if you are kicked in the nuts there has to be a reason.
Gisborne Judo Club is having their 60th reunion 6th December 2013.
Barney our brown belt fails his shodan kata test over the weekend and next chance will end of August in Gisborne.More hard training Barney.
Judo n.z. dan grading commission is made up of telly tubbies who could improve their image by
a. doing judo on the mat on a regular basis
b. doing a kata demonstration to prove that they are not all mouth and no skill.
c.having a coaching seminar
to bring themselves up to date and everybody on the same at the judging table.
At the moment the kata judges .
1.some are very relaxed with the waza standard as long as there are major mistakes want a pass.
2. others want a godan standard for a pass.
In Japan its only the 1st three sets of kata after winning 3 plus or ten over a period of time.
The Japanese theory is shodan is the start and from now on you will start to learn.
After watching some of the shodan kata last Sunday I would have failed them all . They [nippon judo school]
were not doing a judo kata, they were doing a lovely dance.
Walking with no aggressive push form your uke does not allow tori to perform the kata correctly.
Tsugi ashi means tori and uke don't bring their feet together when stepping as this is against the principle of balanced judo.
All those who were doing ballet judo over the weekend passed!
