Brown belt grading starts at Uni judo club,with bowing,belt tie, judogi folding,nage no kata and Meiji era waza.

Last night was the beginning of the brown grading season and four aspiring hopefuls turned up to begin their training and test .
For brown belt the following listed in order of importance is required.
1. How to bow [reigi]properly, feet together, not too low with your eyes still on the opponent.
2.How to tie your belt properly,not crossed over at the back and both ends the same length.[obi waza]
3.How to fold to your judogi Japanese style to take home for washing.[sentaku waza]
As this took two hours the class finished with the promise that on Friday that there would be revision of the above.
This Saturday;Having mastered the above we could move onto stage four.
The 1st three sets of nage no kata will be tested. With the most important points being sugi ashi and aggressive pushing.No ballet Nippon judo school style kata thank you.
Next Monday/Wednesday there will be an exam for illegal and legal Meiji 1863-1912 era judo waza.
Please note all of the above is a requirement from Judo New Zealand grading syllabus.
We have been very fortunate to have the judo master from Broken Eagle wing judo club Albany a Kodokan 6th dan as our guiding light for all of the above and have endeavored to follow his example as he teaches his two students the same way.

 UPON THE PRESENTATION OF TWENTY THOUSAND YEN AND  TWO CASES OF GISSIE GOLD MALT LAGER [UNTIL WE RECEIVE]THE ORIGINAL CERTIFICATE WILL BE HELD BY THE ABOVE CLUB FOR SAFE KEEPING .
