University Judo at the Auckland International Open

(Pics to come soon)

This weekend saw 7 members of University Judo compete at the Auckland International Open held at Eventfinda Stadium in Glenfield.

In the morning, during the Veterans Competition (formerly known as Masters), we scored 3 medals, with the Under 73kg silver and bronze medals going to Tank Chan and Quentin Thurier, respectively, and an Under 90kg bronze medal going to Stu Mitchell. Jaime Spencer also had her first taste of proper competition judo, competing in the Cadet Women's.

A bit later in the day, during the senior competitions, we were unable to score any more medals but put up some good fights. In the Under 81kg division, Jean-Paul our Welsh green belt, put up two good fights against brown and black belts while Stu Mitchell lost a tough bronze final in the Under 90kg category. Kafoa Hala, who was representing Tonga on the day, also had his first taste of real competition judo, putting up some tough fights.

Later in the day, Tank Chan participated in the batsugun, putting up some solid fights against opponents much bigger than him.

Congratulations to our medallists and participants!
