This Saturday, following our usual Saturday morning fundamentals class, University Judo did a "randoori-a-thon" of 50 rounds of randoori to raise money for Christchurch Victims. At our largest we had about 22 people in the dojo and finished with 5 people (pictured above) for the last 11 rounds. We had participation from AucklandBJJ, Hajamie Judo, the Howick College Judo Club and even an appearance from former Commonwealth Games representative Sam Rosser. We managed to raise a total of $1000 ($320 raised on the day through cash and eftpos), with the final donation that got us over the line being a donation from Ferrid Kheder, the French Olympian who ran a seminar at our dojo earlier this month. UPDATE: With some further donations, we have made it to $1200 total.
Thanks for all those who participated! Anyone who still wants to donate can do so through this link: https://givealittle.co.nz/fundraiser/auckland-university-judo-50-randoori
I will leave you all with a photo that sums up the effort of the day. I dub this photo, "Starfish Garth" (taken just before the final round)
